Mr. Jason Treuting; member of So Percussion: July 2015, discussing his time and experience studying and working with Keiko Abe during his residency in Japan and how that affected his concept of percussion performance.
Ms. Keiko Abe: June-July 2015, interview related to discussions of the marimba and the role of Buddhism beliefs and values in her compositions, teachings, and performance. Discussions of Minoru Miki and his compositions also took place, specifically discussing his inspiration of using traditional Japanese genres and instruments in his orchestral works.
Dr. Yoshiaki Onishi: June-July 2015, Former Head of the Music Theory and Composition department at Toho Gakuen School of Music, in our interview he talks about the differences and comparisons between American folk music and Japanese folk music, and America’s influence on how it’s affected Japanese folklore.

Has given performance workshops and lectures on American Percussion Literature at the Toho Gakuen School of Music (June 2015)
Performed popular children folk songs with marimba ensemble for elementary schools through the districts of Sengawa, Marunouchi, Akihabara, and Kanamecho, in the Northern/Central Tokyo area of Japan (May-June 2015)
Organized with US Together and Outreach Program a food packing event that raised over $4,000.00 dollars and packed 17,148 meals that would be shipped to refugee communities in need of food in the Toledo/Columbus areas (November 2017)

Field Research
United States: Miami. FL (March 2016)– studied contemporary Brazilian marimba music and traditional Brazilian folklore with Dr. Ney Rosauro. I interview and observe how he approaches music performance and what it means for him through collaborating in countless communal concerts and services he puts together weekly in his local community.
San Salvador, El Salvador (July 2016) – Conducted ethnographic research on the influence of Guatemalan Marimba music and it’s transference in El Salvadorian protest music.
Sengawa, Japan (May-June 2015) - During my residency in Japan I observed Keiko Abe at Toho Gakuen School of Music, along with some of her other colleagues in the Japanese marimba culture, to learn more about how they approached teaching, performing, and composing.
